Jacob's Dedication

Jacob’s Dedication
November 27, 2010

Will the parents and Godparents of Jacob please come forward…

Adam & Angie, God has chosen you, just as He chose Abraham, to help establish His covenant in the earth.  For He has said of Abraham that, "...he will command his children and his household after him, that they shall obey the Lord and practice righteousness and justice..."

As you have brought this child before the Lord and this gathering to dedicate him/her to God's service, so also has it required you to come and renew your commitment to Him and to His people.  For the burden of raising a child that fears the Lord is significant, and can only be properly carried by parents whose hearts are yielded to Him.

So Adam & Angie, I adjure you to seek the Lord with all of your heart; to never let your ear become dull of hearing His word, your eyes tire of seeing His glory, or your heart callous to His touch.  I admonish you to be an example to your children in word and deed; to discipline them with love and to nurture within them a heart that hungers after God.  I ask you to never forget that this child has been given to your stewardship. He/she is not yours to train as you wish, but she/he is wholly the Lord's, and you must now inquire of Him how you should rear him/her.
Create within your home an atmosphere of worship. Husbands, love your wives as Christ loved the church. Wives, love and respect your husbands as the church is to love and respect Christ.

Adam & Angie, love the Lord and serve Him.  Enjoy the brief moments that He has given you with this precious little girl/boy.  Make the most of every opportunity.   Do not live your life always needing to make time for him/her; but prioritize well and make time for everything else. Watch him/her grow, and in the process, grow with him/her.

Adam & Angie, If your desire is to adhere to these admonitions will you please respond by saying, "By God's grace we will."

May the Lord bless all your efforts in the care of and protection of:  Jacob

Godparents:
By attending this ceremony you are pledging your support to this family.  You are saying that I will help you in the godly rearing of your children.  I ask that you pray for them and encourage them as they seek the Father's will.

Congregational family:
Will you support these families through your prayers?  Will you encourage them to grow strong in the faith that is in Christ Jesus?  Will you help them in times of trouble?  Will you stand by them as they stand with the Lord?  Will you remind them of the covenant that they made before God and this gathering - to let Jesus be the Lord of their home?  Will you help them when necessary by being their "brother's & children's keeper?"  If you will, will you respond by saying "Amen."

Pastoral Prayer of Blessing

This past weekend we were finally able to have Jr's baby dedication!!! We were suppose to have it in May on Mother's Day, but Adam was traded and would not be around to attend the service, so we put it on hold. It's something that has been weighing on our hearts heavily and we finally got the perfect opportunity. Both Jr's godparents were here, Phil and Stacy, so we had Pastor Brett come over and we dedicated Jacob to the Lord!!! My heart feels so great knowing that we've committed to raising our child knowing and loving the Lord everyday. This truly is something that Adam and I feel so blessed to be able to do with our child!

Every night we do high and low with Jr (of course we make up what we think his high/low was for the day would be) and then we always pray. We always ask him are you ready to pray, then fold our hands, close our eyes and begin to pray. He just stares at us and I really think he's wondering, "Why are they talking with their eyes closed!" I can't wait to pray with him someday!

It simply was beautiful!!!
